Yoga Therapy

YogaTherapy_Andireddenyoga.comNot long ago, people thought of yoga only in esoteric terms. Today, even the U.S. military is beginning to embrace the mind-body relationship as well as the therapeutic and even medicinal value of yoga. Physical, mental and spiritual imbalances can all play a roll in the physical ailments of the body.

Yoga Therapy is the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well being through the practice of this ancient discipline.

Unlike the understanding of yoga merely as a form of exercise, Yoga Therapy is the application of yogic principles to empower individuals to realize their inherent freedom from suffering. Chronic back and neck pain, for example, has been linked to high stress levels. Yoga Therapy is an educational process that focuses on health and wellness at all levels of a person’s physical, psychological and spiritual life.

Having been certified in this restorative type of yoga instruction, Yoga therapist Andi Donovan performs a physical assessment of your current condition and observes imbalances. Based on your goals and her observations, a prescription is issued. This prescription may include restorative, passive yoga poses or strength-building yoga poses. It may also include myofascial release techniques using a foam roller, or, if you tend to hold a lot of stress in your body, specific breath or meditation techniques that can be used to calm the nervous system.
